One week out

We only have one more week before we head out. We performed a test packing today. We loaded the trailer with everything we plan on taking. Not only does this help us figure out if everything will fit but it also allows us to figure out the total weight and properly adjust the distribution of our stuff to get the trailer tongue weight correct. It is important to get this right so that the trailer will ride smoothly.

What we packed:
2 duffle bags (one for each of us) with 14 days worth of clothing.
1 bag with all of our heated gear
1 camera bag
1 laptop
1 soft side cooler
1 bag with trailer accessories (air hose, chocks, hitch locks, etc)
1 soft sided tool bag
1 parts tool box (spare bulbs, lubricants, tire repair, etc)
1 box with hiking gear
1 box with cleaning supplies
1 trailer cable
1 large umbrella

How much does all that weigh? It adds up to around 180 lbs of gear!

With the successful test pack, we can quickly prep the trailer for our early 5am departure next Saturday!

Two weeks to go.

Two weeks to go. This weekend we installed new tires for the trip. Tom stopped by and I replaced four tires for him (two on his Wing and two on his new Bushtec trailer). I swapped out my silver rims for my black rims which were already prepared with a new front and lightly worn rear Michelin that we used on the Glacier trip. Next weekend I'll change out the oil, wax the bike and trailer, and take a final shake down test ride to finish off preparations on the bike. We'll also do a test pack on the trailer to make sure we know the best way to distribute the weight.
